How can I beat the house? That is always the question when it comes to sports betting. Gambling is, and always should be, just for fun; it is a way to add excitement and adrenaline to your favorite games, a way to prove everything you know about your favorite teams and players and a way to challenge your friends and have some friendly disputes with them. But it’s safe to agree that it’s always nice to make some money, and most of all when you can do it while doing something you really enjoy, like watching your sports.
It appears easy, sometimes, to just bet on heavy favorites and wait for the inevitable, an easy win. What happens with this is that heavy favorites require high investments for a low pay, and then it becomes a big risk. This is when playing against the odds becomes a thing. The bigger the underdog, the better the payout. How can we balance these two things; good odds vs big underdogs? Well, it’s not easy, as you can imagine, but there are a few ways you can try, always keeping in mind that this is for fun.
Live Betting
Live betting during games is one of the best ways to beat the odds and add real fun and excitement to any event. Why? Well, many things happen during a game that affect the outcome of different betting markets. It’s not the same to put up a line for a game one week or a few days before it starts, with all the info at hand and the stats to back up the odds, than to offer lines live during a game where injuries can appear, suspensions, weather conditions and many other factors that could tip you off.
One of the strong points of any Price per Head operation is the wide variety of markets they offer, before and during each game. If your Bookie is not using one of these services already, and the options are kind of limited, make sure to tell him about Pay Per Head and how this could benefit his operation in many ways.
Research different leagues and sports
There are many different sports and leagues from all over the world, and any Bookie should be able to offer them to you as a player. You should not be limited to playing only your local leagues or major sports, there are hundreds, or even thousands of different markets available, and getting to know them could probably help you beat the house. You know that every operation will probably have the sharpest lines for all major events, as usual, but that may not be the case for a Soccer tournament in Norway, a Rugby league in Ireland or a Baseball league in Mexico. This does not mean that we’re looking for bad games or wrong odds, just that the risk could be higher for the house in these types of leagues, than it is, probably, in an NFL or an MLB game, for example.
Know your stats
It never hurts to do a little research and know the stats for the leagues or specific teams you like betting on. You might just find out something that the house doesn’t know, or you might just find out before them, and be able to beat the line before it moves. Make sure you’re aware of important injuries and suspensions that might affect those teams and try to be one or two steps ahead of the line movers.
There is no magic formula for this, but these pointers can, at least, get you started on your very own system for how to play against the odds. Give it a try and let us know how it goes.
